Why I love manna bread

Manna what?
Manna who?

One of the beneficial foods for my blood type is manna bread (also known as Essene bread). Before Eat Right For Your Type, I had never heard of manna bread. My boyfriend and I researched it online and he took the plunge and ordered a few different types.

It arrived in a cooler package because it comes frozen. Why frozen? Since there aren't any preservatives in the bread, it spoils if you don't consume it. Well, we didn't have to worry about it spoiling, but we found it was delicious! The loaves are small, but the bread itself is very dense so you don't need a huge slice.

Now, this is not your all purpose bread for making sandwiches and french toast. This is a complete, whole food, meant to be enjoyed in it's natural state. I like to warm my favorite kind,Carrot Raisin, up in the microwave for 10 seconds and eat it with a few slices of beef bacon (salty and sweet)! Some people eat it with nut butters and honey.

WHAT IS MANNA BREAD MADE OF?

Good stuff! The recipe is very similar to the heaven sent manna mentioned in the book of Exodus. In the Bible, manna sustained the Israelites as they wandered in the dessert for 40 years. It's made from sprouted grains, seeds, nuts, and fruit, baked a low temperature until golden brown. No chemical additives, yeast, sugar and oil.

You can buy manna bread online or find it in the freezer section at Whole Foods. My favorite kinds are the Carrot Raisin (organic sprouted wheat kernels, filtered water, organic carrots, organic raisins) and the Cinnamon Date (sprouted organic wheat kernels, filtered water, organic dates, organic cinnamon, organic oatmeal) made by Manna Organics.

Try it! You just may love it like I do. If you're a fanna of the manna, leave me a comment below!

Why justBe?

You may have noticed a difference.

With my blog posts, that is. Oh yes, and my logo above.

I'm changing direction.

As you can tell by reading my most recent posts, I'm moving away from a singular focus of food and moving into a more holistic realm of wellness.

As I grow older and wiser, I have learned that healthy living isn't just about what you eat. It's about who you are.

As a holistic health coach student at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I am learning that who we are is made up of primary foods. You may be thinking my primary food is cheese and a glass of wine (a little self reflection maybe?).

Primary food is more than what you have on your plate, it's the components that make up your life as you live it.

UPDATE! Eating for my blood type

A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog post, I'm tweaking, not twerking, about the blood type diet. As a student at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, we're learning about dozens of different diets and ways of eating. All very fascinating information, but the blood type diet peaked my interest. So much so, that I ordered an at home blood test kit to find out my blood type.

I discovered I am type O+ which made me happy because I liked to eat mostly all of the beneficial foods. I made a few changes to my diet, by reducing the so called "avoid" foods. Notice, I didn't say cut out completely. I followed the 90/10 rule when it came to eating for my blood type and that's perfectly ok.

So, 7 weeks later, how am I doing?

Decluttering in December

I love the first day of a new month.

I like to take time to assess what I accomplished (or didn't accomplish) the previous month and think about what I want to accomplish for the upcoming month.

This month, I'm focused on getting ready for 2014. I want to walk into 2014 in a fabulous way so over the next few weeks I will be decluttering and cleansing my physical body and space.
